Notes:
  • It was yet another nice bright sunny day, temps ranged from almost 40°F to 25°F as the sun started to descend
  • We chose to hike up to the easier White Rock Mtn then descend the steepest sections.
  • Just south of the WR summit, we found a nice sunny ledge and took a long lunch-stop.
  • Just below that ledge, there was a nice short little snow slope to play on.
  • Even Kim tried glissading :p
  • The trail up the summit cone of Mt. Hunger was pretty icy - we really should have had crampons.
  • We met a large group on their way down.
  • I thought we were going to have a rescue on our hands.
  • The first guy in the group decided to slide down the steepest iciest part of the slope.
  • He almost impaled himself on a tree, then almost dumped himself down an even steeper slope when the trail turned.
  • He was being pretty stupid.
  • I convinced the rest of the group to walk down in the softer snow off to the side.
  • The summit views were incredible.
  • Mt Washington and Mt Moosilauke the east. All of VT's 4000'ers to the west and south.
  • The only thing we didn't like about the summit was all the ATV tracks covering the *whole* summit - even right next the signs asking hikers to stay on the rocks in this fragile alpine environment. Some people are so stupid.
  • The hike down the east side of the summit cone was steep, icy and a little exposed.
  • We all missed my crampons (everyone always borrows mine).
  • We had a nice uneventful hike out form there.
